Job Description: Missions Committee Chair

 General Description

            The position of Missions Committee Chair is responsible for overseeing the functioning of the Committee leadership and representing the SUMC Missions Committee outside the church.

 Key areas of responsibility

  • Will serve as the contact person for Sunrise’s annual missions topic by coordinating efforts between other leadership within the Committee and SUMC at large
  • Will administrate Sunrise Missions Committee email address
  • Will handle communication with GBGM (including but not limited to the yearly report of Sunrise’s activity in missions)
  • Will actively pursue beneficial ministry connections within the Methodist Church and beyond
  • General Committee Leadership responsibilities
    • Responsible for developing, revising and overseeing application of philosophy
    • Will present yearly topic options to Committee
    • Will present budget for approval by Committee
    • Receive quarterly reports 

Job Description: Missions Committee Vice-Chair

General Description

            The position of Missions Committee Vice-Chair is responsible for supporting the Chair of the Committee and for facilitating the congregation’s participation in the Committee.

Key areas of responsibility

  • Will act as the contact person for those interested in joining the Missions Committee, and will connect them with the appropriate leadership within the Committee
  • Will support the Missions Committee Chair in facilitating Sunrise’s annual missions topic
  • General Committee Leadership responsibilities
    • Responsible for developing, revising and overseeing application of philosophy
    • Will present yearly topic options to Committee
    • Will present budget for approval by Committee
    • Receive quarterly reports

Job Description: Missions Committee Pastoral Representative

General Description

            The position of Missions Committee Pastoral Representative is responsible for providing a pastoral covering over the Committee, and keeping the big picture of SUMC before the Committee.

 Key areas of responsibility

  • Will provide pastoral covering and support to the Missions Committee leadership
  • Will help the Missions Committee stay true to the heart and spirit of SUMC
  • Will assist in promoting missions at SUMC as possible
  • Will work with the Missions Committee to create space for promoting missions to the congregation

  • Will present yearly topic options to Committee
  • Will present budget for approval by Committee
  • Receive quarterly reports

Job Description: Missions Committee Staff-Liaison 

General Description

            The position of Missions Committee Staff-Liaison is responsible for keeping the Committee connected to, and relevant to, the staff of SUMC.

 Key areas of responsibility

  • Will facilitate communication between the Missions Committee and other staff at SUMC
  • Will bridge the gap between Missions Committee ideas and SUMC policy
  • General Committee Leadership responsibilities
    • Responsible for developing, revising and overseeing application of philosophy
    • Will present yearly topic options to Committee
    • Will present budget for approval by Committee
    • Receive quarterly reports

  (In the event that there is no Pastoral representative, the Staff-Liaison will also assume the Pastoral Representative’s responsibilities)

Job Description: Missions Committee Secretary

 General Description

            The position of Missions Committee Secretary is responsible for maintaining and ordering the Committee’s files, both electronically (such as minutes and contact list) and on paper (such as mail).

Key areas of responsibility

  • Will keep the minutes at Missions Committee meetings and will share them wih the general Committee following each meeting
  • Will maintain an up to date contact list of all congregants interested in working with the Missions Committee
  • Will collect mail that comes to the SUMC Missions Committee and distribute it to the appropriate person (either the head of another body, to the library, or to be thrown away)

    • Will present budget for approval by Committee

  • Job Description: Missions Committee Treasurer

 General Description

                The position of Missions Committee Treasurer is responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the Committee, including budget and fundraising.

 Key areas of responsibility

  • Will keep track of spending approved by the Committee and will allocate funds as needed
  • Will present annual report to SUMC in conjunction with Head of Missions Opportunities
  • Will oversee and delegate all fundraising opportunities for the Missions Committee
  • Will act as a resource for all teams and individuals wishing to hold fundraisers for their missions projects, in conjunction with Missions Committee Chair

Job Description: Missions Committee Head of Education

 General Description

            The position of Missions Committee Head of Education is responsible for providing opportunities for the congregation of SUMC to learn about missions, in theory, theology and practice.

 Key areas of responsibility

  • Will prepare, offer, and respond to congregational requests for missions education, in the form of workshops, printed materials, speaking engagements, etc
  • Will maintain a physical resource center of missions opportunities (in coordination with Secretary)
  • Will support the annual missions topic through educational means
  • General Committee Leadership responsibilities
    • Responsible for developing, revising and overseeing application of philosophy
    • Will present yearly topic options to Committee
    • Will present budget for approval by Committee
    • Receive quarterly reports

            The position of Missions Committee Head of Missions Opportunities is responsible for facilitating opportunities for the congregation of SUMC to be active in missions, locally and around the world.

 Key areas of responsibility

  • Will facilitate short-term missions trips at Sunrise
    • Will train short-term trip leaders
    • Will process applications for Sunrise short-term missions trips
    • Will evaluate and offer short-term opportunities from outside SUMC to the congregation
  • Will offer local opportunities for missions involvement to the congregation
  • Will coordinate care for and communication with Sunrise’s long-term missionaries
  • General Committee Leadership responsibilities

    • Will present yearly topic options to Committee
    • Will present budget for approval by Committee
    • Receive quarterly reports
