The Salvation Army is a 129-year old, faith-based charity that helps people with all kinds of social needs in virtually every community across America. In 2008, nearly 30 million Americans received assistance from the Salvation Army's 3600 officers, 63,000 employees, and 3.4 million centers across the United States. Worldwide, people in 118 countries and territories around the world were also helped.
The "miracle" of Christmas is repeated over and over again through the joy of caring and sharing. The traditional red kettle is an integral part of the Christmas scene, with millions of dollars donated each year to aid needy families, seniors, and the homeless. In keeping with the spirit of the season, all donations remain in communities where they originate.
Donations provide Christmas dinners, clothing, and toys for families in need. Financial assistance helps with the basic necessities, along with seasonal aid. Many families receive aid over a period of months after the Christmas season, including those struggling with difficult family, emotional, or employment problems.
volunteers distribute gifts to shut-ins in hospitals and nursing homes, and shelters are open for sit-down dinners. The Salvation Army endeavors to bring spiritual light and love to those it serves at Christmas so that the real meaning of the season is not forgotten.
Groups and individuals at Sunrise sign up to bell ring at nearby businesses during the holidays. Your time will be appreciated and rewarding.
